Daemen University Enters into Teach-Out Agreement with Medaille University

May 16, 2023

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen University signed a teach-out agreement with Medaille University on Monday afternoon, May 15, following an announcement that Medaille will cease operations effective August 31, 2023. The agreement was reached after a deal that would have allowed Trocaire College to acquire Medaille was terminated.

A teach-out agreement is a contract between schools that will allow a student to finish their program of study at one or more intentionally-identified institutions.

As part of the teach-out agreement, Daemen will work to meet all institutional financial aid a student is currently receiving. Daemen has made three (3) guarantees for incoming, transfer, and graduate students:

  1. It will never cost a student more to earn a degree at Daemen University than they paid at Medaille.
  2. Daemen will transfer as many credits as possible to help a student graduate on time.
  3. The university will provide preferential housing, allowing students to room with their choice of other Medaille students.

“Daemen understands the uncertainty that Medaille students, faculty and staff are going through right now,” said Dr. Greg Nayor, the senior vice president for strategic initiatives. “While we know we can not fix everything, we want students and families to know that we are committed to ensuring that they have a smooth transition and are able to finish their degree with us, on time, and at no additional cost.”
