Heilman Named Chair of Daemen’s Education Department

AMHERST, N.Y. – Dr. Elizabeth Heilman, who has more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration and teaching, has been appointed chair of education at Daemen College. Her appointment was effective July 1.

Heilman comes to Daemen from Michigan State University, where she served as associate professor of curriculum and teaching at Michigan State University. Prior to this, she was assistant professor of curriculum studies at Purdue University.

 “We are excited to have an innovative educator of Dr. Heilman’s caliber serve in such an important leadership role at Daemen,” said Elizabeth Wright, dean of health and human services. “Her impressive experience, expertise, and academic background will be vital in advancing our outstanding education programs.”

Heilman has authored or served as editor of a number of book chapters, articles, and books, and has presented at many national and international conferences. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association, Committee for International Curriculum Studies, and the National Council for Social Studies, among others.

Heilman earned a doctorate in curriculum studies and social foundations and a master’s degree in social foundations, both from Indiana University, and a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in government from the College of William and Mary.

She resides in Buffalo.
