AMHERST, N.Y. – Alvin J. Roberts III has been named to the newly created position of director for diversity and multicultural affairs at Daemen College, effective Feb. 1. His appointment is the culmination of a national search.

Daemen’s Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs has been created to oversee college efforts that embrace and promote diversity and inclusion in the campus community. In his new role, Roberts will be responsible for developing a plan that emphasizes diversity education, programming and activities and exemplifies cultural awareness, advocacy and respect for diversity on campus.

“Establishing this new position is vital to advancing our campus-wide multicultural and diversity initiatives,” said Dr. Greg Nayor, vice president of student affairs and dean of students. “As a collaborative leader and a strong advocate for students, Alvin has the experience and qualities that will help foster a diverse, inclusive and welcoming Daemen campus.”

Roberts comes to Daemen from Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md., where he was director of multicultural affairs. Prior to this, he served at SUNY Upstate Medical University as coordinator/program director for multicultural retention and cultural programming, and also held admissions and academic support positions.

A member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, Roberts earned a master’s degree in human resource development, an advanced graduate certificate in strategic training, and a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and service management, all from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
