AMHERST, N.Y. – A free screening of Shalini Kantayya’s new documentary “Catching the Sun,” which explores the international race to build a clean energy economy, will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in Daemen College’s Schenck Hall Room 107. A discussion about the film will follow the screening.

Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, “Catching the Sun” follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry. The film tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change.

Offering an optimistic outlook on the future of clean energy, the recently released documentary has been selected as a New York Times Critics’ Pick and a Los Angeles Film Festival selection. A film trailer is available at catchingthesun.tv.

The “Catching the Sun” screening, which is open to the public, is being co-sponsored by the Daemen Department of Global and Local Sustainability, Sierra Club Niagara Chapter, League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara, and the Climate Justice Coalition of Buffalo Niagara.
