Description:Active Student Responding (ASR) is an evidence-based teaching strategy grounded in behavior analytic principles that increases engagement and learning during group instruction. This session explores how behavior analysts and educators can collaborate to design group instruction that maximizes opportunities for active responding and immediate feedback. Participants will learn how to create and modify lessons to increase active participation of all students, from preschoolers to graduate students, as well as how to use data to evaluate student outcomes. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to make group instruction more interactive, effective, and fun!
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define “active student responding” (ASR) and describe its role as an evidence-based behavioral teaching strategy grounded in the principles of operant conditioning.
- Identify common procedures for increasing ASR in various educational contexts, including K-12 and higher education.
- Design or modify lessons to incorporate active responding and immediate feedback.
