Daemen University's Behavior Technician Training course (ABA 202) introduces you to the basic principles of ABA, including measurement of behavior, behavioral assessment, skill acquisition techniques, reduction of problem behaviors, and professional ethics.
ABA is a growing field with applications in education, special education, and developmental disabilities and autism services. If you plan to work with children or adults with developmental disabilities in any capacity, this course offers a strong introduction to the concepts and techniques you will use.
Meets BACB® training requirements: This course fulfills the 40-hour instructional requirement set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) toward becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT®). Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate of completion.

- Fully online and asynchronous. Work at your own pace, on your own schedule, with weekly deadlines.

Who can pursue RBT® certification
To apply for RBT® certification and sit for the exam, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a high school diploma or GED
- Pass a criminal background check and abuse registry check
- Complete a 40-hour training program (this course meets that requirement)
- Complete the Initial Competency Assessment
After the course
Your certificate of completion does not expire on its own, but it works alongside other deadlines set by the BACB®, so the timing of your application is important:
- Your background check must be completed within 180 days of submitting your application
- Your Initial Competency Assessment, completed at your place of employment under supervision from an RBT® Supervisor, must be submitted within 90 days of the BACB® receiving your application
Because certification rules can change, keep in mind that the BACB® periodically updates its official RBT® Task List. If that happens, older certificates based on a previous version may no longer be accepted, so it is best not to delay the remaining steps once you finish the course. Visit BACB for more information.
Timing matters
The BACB® requires the 40-hour training to be completed in no less than 5 days, but no more than 180 days from your start date. If you go over 180 days, your certificate is no longer valid, and the training must be completed again. Plan accordingly once you begin.
