Parents, families, and supporters play an essential role in student success. Your encouragement helps students take full advantage of the opportunities Daemen University has to offer as they explore their interests, discover their path, and build the confidence, skills, and experiences needed for meaningful careers and success in their chosen field.

How You Can Support Your Student

Here are some of the best ways to encourage your student throughout their college journey:

Encourage Involvement on Campus

Getting involved helps students build confidence, friendships, leadership experience, and transferable skills employers value.

Encourage your student to:

  • Join clubs and student organizations
  • Participate in campus activities and leadership opportunities
  • Attend campus events and networking opportunities
  • Explore new interests
  • Become an active part of the Daemen community

Don’t see a club or organization that matches your student’s interests? That can be a tremendous opportunity to create something new and make a lasting impact on campus. Starting a club or organization is also an excellent way to develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Encourage Attendance at Career Services Events

Students can view our upcoming events on Daemen Connect or on the Events tab of our website.

Encourage Early Career Advising Appointments

Evidence from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) supports that early and sustained career advising is a primary driver of job readiness, not just a supportive service. Students who engage early with Career Services gain structured exposure to employers and are more likely to participate in career-building activities (internships, networking and skill workshops) leading to proven significant increases in job offers.

Encourage Internship and Experiential Learning Opportunities

Internships and experiential learning opportunities are among the strongest predictors of career success after graduation. Employers consistently rank industry internship experience among the top factors when evaluating candidates for entry-level hiring. In NACE’s 2025 Job Outlook data:

84.4% of employers said completing an internship within their industry was an important hiring factor

NACE research found students who participate in experiential learning (internships, etc.) report:

  • higher career satisfaction
  • higher salaries
  • stronger early-career outcomes after graduation across employers and industries

Career Services can help students identify, apply for, and maximize internship opportunities throughout their time at Daemen.
