-
Stay overnight in the residence halls.

Be trained on Self Service (Plan & Register), the University’s online site for registering for classes, viewing your schedule, monitoring your course grades, and much more.
-
Meet your orientation leaders, current students who will share their experiences at Daemen and help mentor you in your first year.
-
Meet other new first-year students who will be starting in the Fall.
-
Meet with representatives from each of the academic and student services on campus who will provide you with answers to frequently asked questions and provide you with information on how to best use their services and be successful at the University.
- Participate in fun activities that acquaint you with the University, the staff, and students.
Yes. Each first-year orientation session is a two-day overnight program in which all students will stay in an air-conditioned room in our residence hall. It is an intensive program designed to aid all new students with their transition to Daemen University. Student events are planned until late in the evening and it is during the evening casual time that students best have an opportunity to get to know each other and our orientation leaders. This relationship building time contributes significantly to a student’s successful transition to college.
Be sure to remember to pack your sleeping bags/bed linens, blanket, pillow, towels/necessities, alarm clock. There are various activities throughout that day so wear something comfortable. Some students will also bring a change of clothes for the outside evening events in case the weather is cooler.
Dress comfortable and casual. Bring a jacket or sweater for times when you are in buildings with air conditioning. Some students will also bring a change of clothes for the outside evening events in case the weather is cooler.
A one-time first year student student fee of $175 will be added to your fall tuition bill. This fee covers the cost of food, lodging, activities, staffing, and all materials used during first year student events including Summer Orientation, Welcome Back Programs, and first-year student programming.
As an HEOP student you are required to register for first-year orientation. All students who have been accepted into the HEOP program must register for the first orientation session on July 24/25, 2023.

Western New York now also offers Uber and Lyft as travel options. Please note that Daemen only has residence hall staff on hand during the actual session times and cannot accommodate students staying on campus past check-out on day two of orientation. Students should make travel arrangements that will allow them to arrive by 8:00am on day one and depart by 4:30pm on day two. If you are traveling alone (without your family) and have special needs please contact orientation at orientation@daemen.edu or 716-839-8200 by July 10.
For the summer program, students and family members may park in any Daemen University lot. Parking passes are not required at this time. Check-in for students and families will be held in the Wick Student Center. Please do not park in any spots deemed reserved.
You should receive an email confirming your reservation for the orientation program approximately 24 hours after we've received your registration form.
Orientation for first-year students is a two-day program. Students are required to stay overnight and attend the duration of the program. The program begins at 8:00am on the first day and ends at 4:00pm on the second day.
New York State Public Health Laws 2165 and 2167 require all college students to show proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella as well as making an informed decision about having the meningitis vaccine before being able to register for classes. All college students, but particularly those who will be living on campus, are urged by the NYS Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control to have the meningitis vaccine. This documentation needs to be on file with Health Services before a student will be allowed to register for classes. There are no exceptions. Send your records to Health & Insurance Services NOW to avoid complications in registering for your classes.
All first-year students are pre-registered for their first semester by the Academic Advisement office. You must complete advisement questionnaire included with your orientation reservation to be registered for classes. You will receive a printed copy of your schedule at orientation if you are health compliant.
We offer a Family Orientation, designed specifically for parents and guardians and information may be found at the family orientation page. The new student orientation program is for first-year students only. The Parent Orientation runs concurrently with, but separate from, the student program.
Orientation is a requirement for matriculation at Daemen University. You will not be able to register for courses without attending an orientation program.
Once you have registered for orientation you will receive an email instructing you on how to upload your picture and create your student ID. You will receive your student ID and computer account information during the orientation program.
Information on student services is included in the orientation program.

Family Orientation
The Daemen University community prides itself in helping our first-year students become successful academically, emotionally, personally, and socially. Daemen University is a place for students to make new friends, develop new skills, and learn about themselves and the world. Parents/guardians need to be aware that their students are making many new transitions at this time in their life.
To help with this transition we would like to invite all parents/guardians of incoming first-year students to our Family Orientation.
The orientation is open to all parents and guardians and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the services Daemen offers, where to go when you have questions, and how to address concerns your student may have during their first year.
This year's Family Orientation program is offered in two, one-day sessions: July 24 and July 27. These are identical programs and you choose only one session to attend. It is not required that you attend the same session as your student. The sessions run concurrently, but are separate from first-year orientation.
The parent orientation is free to parents and guardians.
Absolutely! Even if you are familiar with the surrounding area, your student has never been enrolled at Daemen and there is valuable information you can receive by attending orientation. As a parent or guardian, attending this program will enable you to be a valuable support system and sounding board for your student during their university experience. It is also important to point out that the freshman year experience at college is a unique experience whether your student is attending university 1 mile from home or 100 miles from home.
Yes, students will receive their schedules during the program and have an opportunity to speak to the faculty about their new schedule on day two of the program.
The Parent Orientation is for parents and guardians with an interest in assisting their student in the transition to and through to graduation.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide housing on campus for family members, as we need the residence hall rooms for the required overnight stay for the orientation students and current students who are enrolled in summer classes. The Wydham Garden Williamsville, Reikart House, Hampton Inn Williamsville, and Homewood Suites Buffalo-Amherst are located close to campus and all have special rates for Daemen guests. Just mention Daemen University when making your reservation for the special rate.
Yes, those offices and many more will give presentations regarding the services they offer to students and will be able to answer specific questions you may have regarding your student's needs. These presentations are created with the idea to give you all the information you need to feel well-informed about Daemen University. All offices will also be open from 8:30am-4:30pm.
If your student requires special accommodations for orientation and/or during the academic school year, they should contact Accessibility Services via email at access@daemen.edu, by phone at 716-839-8228 or in person at the Student Success Center on the first floor of the Research and Information Commons (RIC).
Please note that disability related information should be sent directly to Accessibility Services. It is not included in the academic records sent to admissions by your student's school.
The family program schedule runs concurrently with, but separate from, the student schedule. The programs are separate to meet the different needs of students and parents/guardians. The goal is not to intentionally separate you from your student, but to expose them to their university experience and help them learn about Daemen University on their own. Your presence is important to us and we feel that by participating in the parent program you will have the unique opportunity to gain valuable information and share in the excitement of your student's first university experience! But do not fear, at the end of the family program you have the opportunity to chat with them before you leave and they continue on with the student program.
New York State Public Health Law 2167 requires all college students to show proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella as well as making an informed decision about having the meningitis vaccine. All University students, but particularly those who will be living on campus, are urged by the NYS Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control to have the meningitis vaccine. This documentation needs to be on file with Health Services before a student will be allowed to register for classes. There are no exceptions. Send your student's records to Health Services now to avoid complications when your student arrives to campus for orientation.
