Each year, two incoming freshman are chosen as Visual Arts Scholars by the faculty of the Visual and Performing Arts department based on the strength of their portfolio, academic potential, personal character and leadership. Winners of this prestigious scholarship will be announced at the awards ceremony of the 48th Annual All High Exhibition, February 5, 2017, at 1:00 pm in the Tower Gallery of the Haberman Gacioch Art Center. View more information on Portfolio Day and submission guidelines.
The portfolio is a collection of the student applicant's original art work. Submission of a portfolio is necessary to complete the requirements for admission to the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Daemen College.
No fewer than fifteen and no more than twenty examples of original work in a variety of media must be included. Emphasis should be on observational drawing, as well as painting and three-dimensional work. We de-emphasize the submission of graphic design or digital collages.
Work should be presented as clearly and professionally as possible. A portfolio case is recommended with each work, matted with a protective cover sheet over each piece. Each work should be clearly numbered with a separate sheet listing the numbered pieces along with title, media, and year completed for each piece. Photographs or digital images are recommended for three-dimensional or oversized work.
Portfolios should be mailed directly to the Admissions Department and must include a postage-paid mailer for return to the applicant. Digital copies of a student's portfolio are also accepted and must be submitted for both PC and Mac user-friendly viewing.
