College life can be challenging, but you're not alone! The Counseling Services team in the CHIP Center at Daemen University are professionally licensed mental health specialists who are committed to responding to the mental health needs of students in a compassionate, competent, and confidential manner. Students that are interested in making an appointment are encouraged to complete the counseling support form at daemen.edu/counselingsupport.
Counseling can help you develop an increased awareness of your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. It can provide you with new skills and help you to recognize and utilize your personal strengths so you can make the changes needed to improve your overall well being.
Some areas we can help with include but are not limited to:
- Adjusting to college
- Alcohol/substance abuse
- Relationship problems
- Self-Esteem/confidence concerns
- Stress management
- Time management
- Problems with eating/weight
- Career confusion/uncertainty
Your privacy and trust are important to us. All counseling sessions are confidential. Sessions are protected by state law and professional ethical standards. No information can be released without your written authorization. However, confidentiality is legally limited. Your counselor will speak with you about the limits of confidentiality when you first meet.
In person sessions take place in the CHIP Center. Teletherapy (virtual) counseling sessions are also available. Due to New York State (NYS) licensing restrictions, teletherapy services can only be provided to students who are currently in New York State. That said, the counseling team can meet with students to discuss resource connection in these situations.
